What is fruit cake?

Fruit cake is a popular dessert that uses various percentages of ingredients, from plain to complex. It can also be homemade, either baked fresh or stored for later use.

Fruit cake comes in many varieties, including flavors that are out-of-this-world sweet with hints of cinnamon, orange, lemon, apple, cherry, grape, and other berries.

Many variations include nuts, cookies, and other ingredients such as chocolate chips or candy. You can even find fruit cakes that contain wine or liquor.

Some recipes call for oranges, cherries, strawberries, raspberries, and/or other fruits. Many times, these same vegetables are used in the baking process to create a foamy texture and subtle flavor shift.

Others require canned fruits, which add a slightly different flavor profile. This keeps the dish simple and cost-effective.

Flavor choice is one of the biggest decisions you will make when developing any diet. If you choose strawberry cheesecake flavor, for example, you’ll need enough strawberries to do both desserts.

You can also add berries or chocolate into your peanut butter flavor dough to make chocolate pear cakes. Or if tartness is what you are going for, use lemon peel or apple cider vinegar instead of vanilla.

These little tweaks give your meals new textures and tastes and are easy ways to enhance or change your recipes.

If you want to go even further away from eating straight protein, try making banana muffins. Replace the milk in the batter with water, and fold 1/2 cup (50 grams) of ground flaxseed (the equivalent of 2 eggs) into the batter.

This adds an extra fiber source to your breakfast. Banana bread is another great option.”

Fresh fruit cake

Some people say that you must use strawberries in your cake because they are traditional, but I do not like using standard cakes. You can make any cake look delicious by adding flavors to it or putting interesting decorations on top of it.

I prefer making a simple strawberry sauce instead of mixing strawberries into my cake batter.

This way, I get more of an overall flavor from all the ingredients together rather than having little chunks of strawberry here and there.

The simplicity is what makes this dessert special — besides the fact that it’s fruity and fun.

Jamaican fruit cake

Although it is referred to as a fruit cake, this dessert has bits of sweet potato and apple floating around. Along with these two ingredients, peanuts are also thrown into the mixture to make this Jamaican specialty.

Although its origins lie in Jamaica, this sweet dish comes accompanied by shards of milk chocolate that add even more sweetness to the already delicious blend. After trying this flavor once, you will certainly be asked for second helpings!

The best way to prepare this dessert is using banana nuts instead of peanut butter. First, cut up some bananas and mix them with their equivalent amount of peanut butter (about 2 tablespoons). Then, wrap it all off and put it into a hard boil oven.

Next, run through various types of nuts while they are still hot (you can usually find ones at your local grocery store) until you get one that’s flat like plastic. Add your content and keep running till you reach the end again.

You then have your basic flat shape. Next, take out your blender or knife and slice down both sides so there is no top. Place onto the stove over low heat and slowly melt half of your shavings while watching tv.

When most of the melting has happened, gradually switch from the slower heating method to the high-heat setting. Once everything has melted, remove from heat and pour cool juice into the mug. Enjoy!

No bake fruit cake

Put out some blueberries, raspberries, or strawberries for your “ sugar”. Then mix 2 cups vanilla ice cream, 1 cup fresh berries (like red grapes), and 1/2 cup chopped nuts of your choice.

This is also called a snow day- make it early in the season so that the flavors will break down a little faster.

Old fashioned fruit cake recipe 

What gives the taste so characteristic of the fruitcake? Time! It is by brushing the cake regularly for a month that it will take on this flavor that we know so well. So we do it in advance to prepare it.

INGREDIENTS

Fruits and nuts

250 ml (1 cup) mixed candied fruit

125 ml (½ cup) whole and pitted candied red cherries

125 ml (½ cup) dried dates, pitted and halved

125 ml (½ cup) raisins

125 ml (½ cup) dried cranberries

125 ml (½ cup) pecan halves

125 ml (½ cup) whole almonds, blanched or not

Cakes

180 ml (¾ cup) unbleached all-purpose flour

1 ml (¼ tsp) baking soda

1 ml (¼ tsp) salt

1 ml (¼ tsp) ground cinnamon

1 ml (¼ tsp) ground nutmeg

125 ml (½ cup) unsalted butter, softened

125 ml (½ cup) brown sugar

2 eggs

250 ml (1 cup) cognac or Grand Marnier, approximately

PREPARATION

1. In a bowl, mix all the ingredients. To book.

2. Place the rack in the center of the oven. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Butter three 15 x 7.5 cm (6 x 3 in.) loaf pans and lines them with a strip of parchment paper, letting it hang over two sides.

3. In a bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, salt, and spices. To book.

4. In another bowl, cream the butter with the brown sugar using an electric mixer. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating until the mixture is smooth. On low speed, add the dry ingredients.

5. Using a spatula, fold the fruit and nut mixture into the batter. Spoon into pans and bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cakes comes out clean. Let cool. Unmold and let cool completely on a wire rack.

6. Brush the cakes with 30 ml (2 tablespoons) of cognac or Grand Marnier. Repeat the operation twice a week for a month. Keep refrigerated in an airtight container or bag until ready to serve.

7. Thinly slice the cakes.

Old-fashioned fruit cakes have no added sugars, only spices and lots of fruits. They have ingredients like nuts, brown sugar, dates, and berries, which make them fun to experiment with.

My next attempt at an old-fashioned fruit cake was this Brandy Almond Fruit Cake. It is also known as “Aunt Edna’s Special Apple Cake” or “Apple Nutmeg Fruitcake”.

I found that it takes almost no time at all to put together — which is why I call it easy. Then we can spend more time enjoying each other’s company or just talking!

Cream fruit cake

Ingredients / for 8 people

some strawberries

1 kiwi

1 small can of pineapple

1 small can of apricots

Flaked almonds

350 ml full cream

Syrup to make fruits shine

For the sponge cake:

4 eggs

125g sugar

125g flour

30g melted butter

PREPARATION

  • Preheat your oven to 170°C (th. 6). Butter then flours the sponge cake mold. Melt the butter. Put the whole eggs and the sugar in the bowl of your stand mixer. Whisk for a long time to make a fairly firm sabayon. Stop whisking and gently incorporate the flour, baking powder, and melted butter using a spatula.
  • Add the mixture to the mold and bake. Cook for around 30 minutes depending on the size of your mussels, checking for doneness with the tip of a knife. Turn out hot on a wire rack and let the sponge cake cool. Once cooled, cut it in half.
  • To finish make whipped cream and cut all the strawberries except 2. Garnish the cake with a mixture of whipped cream and cut strawberries. Put the lid back on it, and place your fruit nicely presented. You can coat the circle of sponge cake with the whipped cream, toast the slivered almonds, and place them on the outline of the circle which will stick to the whipped cream.

This is an easy-to-make classic creamy chocolate or fruity coffee flavor dessert. It’s sweet enough to be a snack all by itself, but it can also serve as a meal when you wrap some up in a square of parchment paper or plastic sandwich bag.

If you have non-traditional berries (like raspberries) or other additions like jams or juice, add them to the filling after the sauce has been made.

Either chocolates or nuts are good additions to this. Using both works well if you need to enhance the flavor
